4 Tips for Taking Care of Your Glass Shower Glass

Glass shower doors are wonderful fixtures in any home. They are more attractive than traditional shower curtains and are great at protecting your bathroom floor from unnecessary moisture damage. Whether you opt for a framed or frameless shower door design, any glass shower door will increase the quality of your bathroom enormously. Like any shower door or curtain however, glass shower doors do require occasional maintenance and regular cleaning. If you just had a shower door installed in your home then you will likely want to learn more about the proper ways to clean and maintain this new bathroom feature.

For a few quick tips on glass shower door maintenance, please refer to the guide below.

  • Try to do a quick clean after every shower – For most of us, this isn’t always an option. But if you can, a quick clean after every shower will go a long way in preventing dirt and grime from adhering too strongly to your glass shower door. This will make deep cleaning much easier on you, and increase the appeal and longevity of your glass shower door. This can be as simple as wiping your glass shower door down with a rag that works well with glass. Or for days when you have extra time, you can use your favorite glass cleaner to make your shower doors really shine. Make sure that you clean the hinges or railing thoroughly.

  • Switch to a soap that doesn’t contain talc – Talc is a filler agent added to many commercial soap products. It is also what is most responsible for causing soap scum that builds up in and around your showers. If you want to make cleaning easier on you, consider switching to a brand of body care products and shampoos that do not contain talc.

  • Clean your glass shower door with a microfiber rag – To ensure that your glass shower door remains scratch free and as clear as possible you should consider cleaning it exclusively with a microfiber rag or similarly soft cleaning cloth or brush. This will keep your glass shower door looking as good as new for years to come.

  • Use the right vinegar based shower cleaning solution – When cleaning glass, particularly glass that is exposed to soap scum and a lot of moisture, some cleaners are better than others. For a tried and true cleaning method for your glass shower doors, fill a clean spray bottle with white vinegar and spray it on your glass shower doors. Then, in a separate container, mix together a paste of equal parts salt and baking soda. Finally, apply this salt and baking soda solution to the shower doors with a sponge (lightly dampen the sponge first so it is more absorbent) to remove all of the apparent soap scum and grime. Finally, just rinse away the solution.
